ILSR to Host Home Composting Workshops for Baltimore City Residents

Looking for a way to recycle your food scraps? Interested in producing your own “black gold” for your yard or garden? Need an activity to do with your children? Want to avoid greenhouse gases and other pollution from  the local incinerator while enhancing  local soils? Learn how to compost at home! 

Celebrate Earth Day (April 22nd) and International Compost Awareness Week (May 2nd-8th) by signing up for a virtual home composting workshop! The Institute for Local Self-Reliance is partnering with the Baltimore City Department of Public Works’ GROW Center to host this series of virtual workshops on home composting. Registration is free and open to the public. Space is limited.

Each workshop will cover the basics of hot composting outside:

  • Introduction to basic systems and steps
  • The benefits of composting 
  • The science of composting 
  • Tools/supplies needed
  • Troubleshooting
  • How to use finished compost

Local attendees will be eligible to win a free compost bin or compost thermometer.
