Where Things Are Happening: Ron Knox on the State(s) of Antitrust
Ron Knox joins the Building Local Power podcast to share his reflections on the antimonopoly movement and the importance of states in the antitrust fight.
The evidence of Big Tech oligarchs and corporate monopolies dominating our markets and controlling our politics is abundantly clear. But, there is a flip side to this coin. There is a vibrant and growing movement to fight back against abuses of corporate power, and it is securing crucial wins against monopolies in communities large and small, writes the Institute for Local Self-Reliance’s Ron Knox in a new zine out now from Portland, Oregon-based publisher Microcosm.
Resist Monopolies!: How to Fight Corporate Control and Support an Economy That Matters examines the expansive movement to reject monopoly control of our economy and democracy. In the zine, Knox details how workers, farmers, small businesses, and citizens are winning battles to reassert the collective power of people and local communities to write their own destinies. The zine serves as a guide to how the average consumer and citizen around the country can help foster and grow more independent, equitable communities and workplaces by supporting their local economies and organizing their communities in ways that build power.
At a moment when the federal government’s will and ability to stand against oligarchs and corporate abuses are in question, Resist Monopolies! serves as both a doorway to hope and a rallying cry. The zine makes clear that the antimonopoly movement is far broader than the enforcement of federal antitrust laws, and rather reflects a framework and set of tools for freer, fairer, and more democratic societies.
Resist Monopolies! is available online from Microcosm Publishing and can be requested at your nearest independent bookstore. Additionally, Knox will hold book talks in select cities throughout the Midwest and the East Coast:
