In response to the House Judiciary Committee’s announcement that it will begin a study of the impact of dominant technology platforms, the Institute for Local Self-Reliance released the following statement:

This is a critically important step. By gathering and documenting detailed, real-world information about the impact that dominant tech platforms are having on competition and innovation, the Committee is building a comprehensive factual record that will enable Congress and the antitrust agencies to act. We anticipate that this will begin a process that will lead to both legislative and enforcement action to check the power of dominant tech platforms and redress the harms they are causing.

In our research, we have spoken to dozens of businesses, small and large, who describe how Amazon uses predatory and anti-competitive tactics to weaken them as competitors. But fear of retribution has prevented these businesses from speaking out. This process will finally allow them to share their stories with lawmakers and the public.
