One pound of worms equals approximately 1,000 worms. Worms eat about 25 percent of their weight each day. You can start harvesting vermicompost in a month and it doesn\u2019t need to cure; it can be used immediately. It is different from worm composting, or vermicomposting; when vermicomposting, you don\u2019t want your bin to heat up!\r\n\r\nRegardless of what option suits you, never leave food scraps exposed on top of a pile; always cover with 4 to 8 inches of carbon-rich material like wood chips, mulch, fall leaves, or even finished compost.\r\n\r\nTo achieve hot composting, turn or remix your compost pile, water as needed, and generally attend to it fairly regularly. Hot composting has two main benefits over cold composting:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li aria-level=\"1\">It\u2019s a quicker process. You will have finished compost in 3 to 5 months as opposed to a year or more with cold composting.<\/li>\r\n \t<li aria-level=\"1\">The temperatures reached in hot composting help to reduce the presence of pathogens and weed seeds.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nWhile you do not need a temperature probe to compost outside, it can be very helpful to monitor what is going on in your pile. <a href=\"https:\/\/reotemp.com\/compost\/reotemp-backyard-compost-thermometer\/\">Reotemp<\/a> is one source of backyard composting probes. Steady composting takes place in the 80 to 130\u00b0F range and hot active composting between 130 to 160\u00b0F. Tomato seeds are often the most difficult to prevent from germinating. Retira los contaminantes, como etiquetas de productos, alambres y pl\u00e1stico, y vuelve a introducir los materiales tamizados, conocidos como \u201csobrante\u201d, en la pila de compost activa.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<h3><b>\u00a1Cu\u00eddate!<\/b><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Siga las normas b\u00e1sicas de salud e higiene. Considere la posibilidad de usar guantes cuando manipule compost o materias primas.
