Applications Now Closed for the Composting for Community Mini-Grant Program<\/h2>\r\nEl Instituto para la Autosuficiencia Local<\/a> (ILSR) is launching year two of the Composting for Community Mini-Grant Program to support new or existing local community composters in New England coastal states and \u2013 for the first time \u2013 New York City. The Mini-Grant Program focuses in particular on historically underserved communities, including Native Nations and neighborhoods affected by discrimination and exclusion. While <\/span>Several New England states<\/a> have enacted legislation to divert food waste from disposal, they mainly target large food waste generators. To meet these regulations, there are abundant resources available to assist supermarkets and other food waste generators but there continues to be a notable lack of support for schools, community gardens, and urban farms in historically excluded neighborhoods to establish a local circular economy. Similarly, although New York City has proved a leader in supporting local composting, the <\/span>tumultuous rollout<\/span><\/a> of curbside composting, <\/span>the pressures of industrial competition<\/span><\/a>, and the limited scope of municipal funding mean many in the city\u2019s vibrant ecosystem of community composters remain under-resourced.
