Developed by ILSR in collaboration with the University of Maryland Extension Master Gardener Program (UME), the Montgomery County Office of Agriculture (OAG), and Thomas Fazio of ECO City Farms, the Extension Composter course is open to anyone interested in supporting composting initiatives in their communities.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"btn :version-1 :size-1 :full-width-false\" role=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScJ7JOm0nFtacL2GyQ6k1Tf0-vM71TLgVaOi5xisCmNoE-9Jg\/viewform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Register for the Course<\/a><\/p>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With both virtual and in-person components, the Extension Composter course will cover the importance of and science behind composting, and the art of how to effectively compost food scraps in home and community settings. Community-based composting can take place at gardens, farms, and other venues, and engages members of that community in the process.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goal of the 2025 Montgomery County Extension Composter course is to create a pool of trained individuals that can:\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Support the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ilsr.org\/articles\/composting-education-hub-maryland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Composting Education Hub<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the Derwood Demonstration Garden and other composting initiatives,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Share their composting know-how with the public, and\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Help to advance composting in Montgomery County.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The course also aims to serve as a model for other counties in Maryland and beyond.<\/span>\r\n<h2><b>Dates and Details: In-Person Training<\/b><\/h2>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The in-person portion of the Extension Composter course will take place from 10 am - 1 pm on <strong>March 8, 15, and 22<\/strong> at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/montgomeryparks.org\/parks-and-trails\/agricultural-history-farm-park\/events-programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Agricultural History Farm Park Activities Center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (18410 Muncaster Rd, Derwood, MD 20855) and the nearby <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ilsr.org\/articles\/composting-education-hub-maryland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Composting Education Hub<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The score will have no bearing on course participation.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Pass ILSR\u2019s Community Composting 101 Online Certificate Course.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Participants must complete the course and email their CC101 certificate of completion to Cally Neely (<\/span><a href=\"mailto:cally@ilsr.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cally@ilsr.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) by Monday, March 3, 2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Meet attendance requirements.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Participants must attend all 3 in-person sessions (see schedule below).
