Compost.<\/a> Michael has over 8 years of experience building gardens and compost systems throughout the County of Los Angeles as well as other parts of the country. Michael has grown L.A. Compost from a group of volunteers collecting organics with bikes to a decentralized network of community compost hubs that span across the most populated county in the country.\r\n\r\n<strong>We celebrate Michael for:<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proving that community composting can be rooted in and serve the community<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demonstrating that community composting can scale up<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Establishing 38 community composting hubs, collecting food scraps at farmers\u2019 markets, and growing his team to 25+ staff<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creating an upcoming magic compost school bus and teaching the importance of soil<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Continuing this work for over a decade, even in the face of <a href=\"https:\/\/ilsr.org\/articles\/franchise-districts-composters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">solid waste franchise districts<\/a> that restricted his right to collect<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Starting with just two bikes collecting kitchen scraps and pivoting to a hub-and-spoke network of community sites\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eventually bringing City government on as partners<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graciously sharing his experience with others so they can replicate your model<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proving community composting can be done, and in doing so, helping us here at ILSR<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span
