April 2023 update: This bill did not make it out of committee before the conclusion of the 2023 session. We hope to build stronger momentum for 2024.<\/h6>\r\nILSR\u2019s Composting for Community team has once again worked with Delegate Regina T. Boyce (District 43, Baltimore City) to re-introduce the <\/span>Solid Waste Disposal and Diversion and On-Farm Composting and Compost Use bill<\/span><\/a> (HB 1139) for Maryland\u2019s 2023 legislative session. This bill was first introduced in 2022 as HB1070<\/a>.<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe bill addresses the critical need for investment into waste reduction programs and infrastructure in Maryland by establishing a major grant funding <\/span>program based on a nominal surcharge on waste disposal. <\/span>Numerous other states<\/span><\/a>, such as those featured in our <\/span>2022 webinar<\/span><\/a>, have similar successful grant programs in place with positive impacts on their local communities, economies, and the environment.<\/span>\r\n\r\nIn Maryland, the grants could total more than $12.5 million per year to support local governments, small businesses, non-profits, schools, farmers, and more in their efforts to advance waste prevention, reuse, repair, recycling, composting, and anti-dumping projects and infrastructure.<\/span>\r\n\r\n\"Graphic\r\n<\/b>\r\n
