For the fifth webinar of the series, we are joined by Dan Matsch of <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecocycle.org\/recycle-compost-reuse\/compost\/carbon-farming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eco-Cycle<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Mark Easter of Colorado State University\u2019s <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrel.colostate.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory (NREL)<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In Boulder County, Colorado, Eco-Cycle and NREL have established carbon farming pilot projects to adapt the science used in the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marincarbonproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Proyecto Carbono de Marin<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in California<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the Rocky Mountain climate. This webinar explored two of the pilot projects now underway in Boulder County and City of Boulder agricultural open space. In both projects, compost application is one of five treatments being measured. His work focuses on greenhouse gas inventories and greenhouse gas decision support systems in agriculture and forestry.\u00a0 Mark contributed analysis to multiple United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports on greenhouse gas inventory methods, and has contributed to national-level inventories of greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture and forestry in the United States, Brazil, Kenya, Jordan, India, Spain and Italy. He is the project coordinator for the COMET-Farm project and technical lead for the Carbon Benefit Project, and collaborates on the COMET-Planner project.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dan Matsch<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-74542 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/ilsr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/dan-matsch.jpeg-e1573057037429-291x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"291\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ilsr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/dan-matsch.jpeg-e1573057037429-291x300.jpg 291w, https:\/\/ilsr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/dan-matsch.jpeg-e1573057037429.jpg 428w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 291px) 100vw, 291px\" \/><\/span><\/h4>\r\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eco-Cycle<br \/>\r\n<\/span><\/h5>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dan Matsch directs the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecocycle.org\/recycle-compost-reuse#compost\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">compost department<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Eco-Cycle, a nonprofit recycler that works with cities along Colorado\u2019s Front Range. He also directs Eco-Cycle\u2019s Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials (<\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecocycle.org\/charm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CHaRM<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). Based in Boulder County, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecocycle.org\/recycle-compost-reuse\/compost\/carbon-farming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eco-Cycle<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has helped to establish carbon farming pilot projects that adapt the science used in the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marincarbonproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Proyecto Carbono de Marin<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in California<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the Rocky Mountain climate. Through its Community Carbon Farming project, it is attempting to measure carbon gains in soil using carbon farming practices on urban land, utilizing a group of citizen scientists. Dan is also an active member of the steering committee for the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ilsr.org\/es\/composting\/community-composter-coalition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener
