ILSR and the recycling community have lost a good and important friend. Bernie Meyerson passed away in May, preceded by his wife of Marion of 60 years a few years before. Both were environmental and social activists.<\/p>\n

Bernie was a role model and tutor to ILSR going back to the mid-1970s as ILSR first engaged in the waste and recycling world. He was an experienced paper broker who gave time freely to recycling organizations, individual recycling groups and newcomers to the recycling movement. He was a World War II veteran and accepted the task of fighting for the climate with vigor. Late in life he fumed at the losses to the environmental movement which he helped build.<\/p>\n

ILSR and Bernie co-founded Secondary Resources Development, Inc.in the 1980s with Rick Anthony and Jon Michael Huls to provide technical assistance services to cities and companies at reasonable rates.<\/p>\n

At this time we remember his great memories of his deep laughter, spirit and comradeship. As they say in Brooklyn, where Bernie was born, “they don’t make them like that anymore.” Certainly Bernie was one of a kind. He will be sorely missed.<\/p>\n
