ILSR Co-Director Brenda Platt Receives Prestigious H. Clark Gregory Award from US Composting Council<\/h1>\r\n

LOS ANGELES \u2013 Brenda Platt, Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) co-director and director of ILSR\u2019s Composting for Community\u00a0initiative, was honored on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017, with the US Composting Council\u2019s prestigious H. Clark Gregory Award<\/a>, \u201cfor outstanding service to the composting industry through grassroots efforts.\u201d The award came at the closing ceremony of\u00a0the US Composting Council\u2019s annual conference, this year held in Los Angeles.<\/p>\r\n

Frank Franciosi, the US Composting Council\u2019s executive director, presented\u00a0the award, including notable past recipients.\u00a0They include such outstanding grassroots composting leaders as: Alice Waters<\/strong> of the Chez Panisse Foundation, Will Allen<\/strong> of the Growing Power Farm, and Christine Datz-Romero<\/strong> of the Lower East Side Ecology Center.<\/p>\r\n

\u201c[Platt] began her career in the late 1980\u2019s, successfully fighting dozens of mass-burn waste incineration plants planned across the country and promoting non-burn alternatives,\u201d said Franciosi in his speech. \u201cBrenda Platt has played a critical role in fostering the growing community composting movement, having co-hosted the National Cultivating Community Composting Forums she has brought together dozens of community composters from across the country,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Franciosi concluded by imploring the audience to\u00a0join him \u201cin congratulating one of the hardest working women in our industry.\u201d<\/h3>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\u201cIt is an incredible honor to work in an industry where you just absolutely love your job\u2026an industry that addresses\u00a0so many of the pressing issues of the day, whether it\u2019s soil, climate, trash, food access, [or] food security,\u201d said Platt in her remarks accepting the award. She concluded, \u201clet\u2019s go after that one trillion dollars in infrastructure, and let\u2019s help build a diverse and distributed composting infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n
