Stacy Mitchell talks Citizen Power and Amazon Boycotts on Wisconsin Today
Do consumer boycotts of Amazon work? Stacy Mitchell recently discussed the effectiveness of consumer boycotts on Wisconsin Public Radio’s “Wisconsin Today,” amid growing public scrutiny of Big Tech companies. She emphasized that while boycotting Amazon can raise awareness, it is unlikely to significantly diminish the company’s dominance. Mitchell highlighted the importance of civic engagement and policy advocacy in addressing corporate monopolies, noting, “We are far more powerful when we use our citizenship muscle to try to influence what’s happening.”
However, she also underscored that shifting your consumer dollars to local, independent businesses does have huge benefits for your community.
