The 2024 Community Power Scorecard
Communities can do a lot to advance energy democracy, but some tools must be granted by state policy. This annual scorecard from ILSR’s Energy Democracy...
ILSR Co-Director and Energy Democracy Initiative Director John Farrell recently gave a presentation for 350.org‘s Utilities Public Education Session. In his presentation, Farrell explains how ILSR’s Community Power Scorecard, Community Power Map, and other resources can support advocates in their work to advance energy democracy.
The Community Power Scorecard lays out which state policies are important for local clean energy action and indicates how a state can better support locally owned distributed generation, empower communities to pursue their own goals, and plan for an equitable transition to clean energy.
The interactive Community Power Map illustrates the policy landscape for each of the 18 policies evaluated in the scorecard.
Watch Farrell’s 15 minute presentation:
Later in the session, Taylor Smith-Hams (350.org) shares a toolkit for passing utility accountability legislation, Patrick Robbins (New York Energy Democracy Alliance) presents on the campaign to pass the Build Public Renewables Act in New York, and Lucy Hochschartner (Pine Tree Power) discusses her experience working on a public power ballot initiative in Maine.
