Conference scholarships of up to $700 are available to community composters to attend the third National Cultivating Community Composting Forum and the US Composting Council’s International Conference & Trade Show January 25-28, 2016, in Jacksonville, Florida.

This year, the conference, COMPOST2016: Soils for a Greener World, will feature a Cultivating Community Composting Forum, as well as a half-day Best Practices in Community Composting Workshop. The Workshop and Forum will bring together composters to network, share best practices, and build support for community scale composting systems and enterprises. The Cultivating Community Composting Forum 2016 is the third national forum sponsored by the Institute for Local Self-Reliance and BioCycle.
You’ll have the opportunity to hear from experts and innovators working throughout the United States to grow food scrap drop-off programs, build community-scale composting systems, manage bicycle and small-scale hauling operations, and more.
The goals of the Forum are to:
- Foster greater interconnection between community/small-scale/urban composters and the USCC membership/conference attendees
- Show how community-scale composting fits in and complements the larger composting industry
- Showcase the variety of models and innovative ideas that are growing from the ground up
- Bring community composters to the US Composting Council Annual Conference & Trade Show who might not otherwise attend
In order to encourage community composter participation, we are pleased to offer scholarships up to $700 to cover conference registration fees and help offset lodging and travel costs. These scholarships are made possible by a generous grant from 11th Hour Project.
In order to receive a scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be in need of financial assistance to attend.
- Are in a position to clearly benefit from going to the conference, with a solid potential to take home new knowledge, skills and contacts that will benefit their local work.
- Are able to cover at least part of their costs.

Note: Scholarships will be approved in early December prior to registration. Travel and lodging expenses will be reimbursed upon submission of an expense report following the conference. Scholarship recipients are responsible for making their own lodging and travel arrangements. Scholarships are not expected to cover the full cost of attending the conference.
