On America Recycles Day, November 15th, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced 25 selectees to receive over $33 million in Recycling Education and Outreach grants. These grants, which are part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, will expand education for reducing and recovering waste across the country.
ILSR’s Community Composting Outreach and Education Project was among the projects selected for funding. This $1.4 million, 3-year project will cultivate local composting to reduce food waste, protect the climate, build healthy soils and community resiliency, promote environmental justice, and develop circular economies rooted in and serving local communities.
Under this funding, we will:
- Expand access to training and public outreach materials that elevate composting’s many benefits;
- Support and grow community-based composting via workshops, podcasts, webinars, networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities, and development of resources and best practices; and
- Create an online interactive Local Composting Toolkit – a curated hub of options, resources, and tools to guide local government, community composters, and individuals in advancing at-home and community composting.
