The grassroots group, the Accidental Activists, stopped Target’s plans of placing a 180,000-square-foot Super Target in Bloomington, MN.
With the city hall overrun by more than 400 residents (most opposed to the project), after 7 hours of deliberating the city council unanimously denied Target’s application to plant a 247,000-square-foot commercial development in the middle of a residential neighborhood.
The group sent letters, petitioned, and door-knocked its way to spread the word on the proposed development’s potential negative impacts on traffic, existing local businesses, and safety. The group was awarded with over 1,500 people contacting the City, 78% of which were opposed to the project. In addition, the lengthy city council meeting featured dozens of residents who stuck around into the late hours of the night to speak out against the development.
